JOB MISSION:
The Longmeadow Public Schools is seeking an outstanding educator to
become Principal of Wolf Swamp Road Elementary School, effective
July 2021. Longmeadow is a suburban community of Springfield, MA
known for its tradition of educational excellence, collaborative
teamwork, and continuous improvement. Candidates must be able to
apply strong interpersonal and communication skills to foster a
shared commitment to school improvement and student learning.
Previous successful elementary school leadership experience is
desired, with a demonstrated ability to collaboratively lead a
learning community's commitment to the academic and
social/emotional growth of all children. Candidates should possess
a Masters degree or higher, and a valid MA license as a school
principal.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Effective Instructional Leadership
1.1Facilitate the development of a shared mission and vision.
1.2Apply current learning principles, practices, and research to
foster effective teaching and student learning.
1.3Lead the renewal of curriculum and instructional programs,
including the use of a variety of teaching and assessment
strategies.
1.4Promote and model the effective use of appropriate instructional
technology.
1.5Supervise, evaluate, and hold staff accountable for implementing
high standards and positive expectations that all students can
perform at high levels.
1.6Provide and support ongoing professional development and
professional and personal well-being for staff.
2.Effective Organizational Leadership
2.1Apply research and organizational leadership skills in
developing a climate of continuous improvement based on research
and data.
2.2Communicate clearly, directly and responsively.
2.3Plan for, model, and encourage collaboration and shared
decision-making.
2.4Lead strategic planning that fosters systemic approaches and

2.5Use data and information as the basis for identifying and

functions for the school.
3.3Apply current knowledge of policy and legal requirements in
managing the school.
3.4Apply current knowledge of fiscal management policy and practice
for the school.
3.5Manage support programs (such as scheduling, filing written
reports, plant operations, information management, and other
aspects of school life.)
3.6Use appropriate technologies to administer his/her
responsibilities.
3.7Manage preparation of all necessary federal, state, and local
reports, grant applications, and other documents for the
school.
4.Promotion of Equity and Appreciation of Diversity
4.1Ensure equity among programs and learning opportunities for
staff, students, and parents.
4.2Demonstrate appreciation for and sensitivity to diversity among
individuals.
5.Effective Relationships With The Community
5.1Assess the needs of parents and community members, involve them
in decision-making, and develop appropriate information and service
programs.
5.2Promote partnerships among staff, parents, business, and the
community.
5.3Interpret, articulate, and promote the vision, mission,
programs, activities, and services of the school and district.
6.Fulfillment of Professional Responsibilities
6.1Demonstrate enthusiasm for his/her own learning.
6.2Demonstrate and promote an atmosphere of respect for self and

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Environmental conditions are a means of
describing the physical surroundings of a worker in a specific job.
This position is performed in a school setting where the
environmental conditions should have no effect on how the job is
performed.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:Full Year - 20 days vacation
SALARY: Commensurate with education and experience and regionally
competitive.
Employer Description As a suburban community of 9 square miles with
a rich, historic, New England heritage, Longmeadow offers a
beautiful and wholesome residential setting along the Connecticut
River for a population of approximately 16,000 people. There is no
industry within the town limits. The community is a pleasant, old

School
Wolf Swamp Road School serves approximately 415 students in
prekindergarten through 5th grade. We offer four half-day preschool
sessions and three full-day kindergarten classes as well as three
sections in each grade level (1st through 5th). We provide a
variety of regular education and special education programs to
provide academic support, remediation, and/or enrichment to
students based on their individual learning needs. Our art,
physical education, library, technology, and music programs (music,
band, orchestra, chorus) foster the development of the whole child
and complement the classroom curriculum. The mission of Wolf Swamp
Road School is to provide a safe, caring, respectful learning
community that encourages every child to achieve his or her
learning potential.
Wolf Swamp Road School is a Responsive Classroom school. The RC
approach to teaching emphasizes academic, social, and emotional
growth in a strong school community. Every staff member at Wolf
Swamp Road School has been trained in the philosophies of
Responsive Classroom. An important practice from RC that happens
every day at Wolf Swamp is morning meeting. Everyone in the
classroom gathers in a circle for twenty to thirty minutes during
the school day and proceeds through four sequential components:
greeting, sharing, group activity, and morning message.
Complimenting our RC approach, we follow the five core competencies
of the CASEL framework utilizing the C.A.R.E.S. Acronym to provide
explicit instruction in the areas of: cooperation, assertion,

Requirements
1.Valid Massachusetts certification as an Elementary School
Principal.
2.A minimum of a Master's degree from an accredited
institution.
3.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
4.Successful experience as an elementary school administrator and
teacher preferred.
5.Experience with special education preferred
6.Strong understanding of techniques of continuous improvement and
organizational behavior
7.Strong understanding of elementary curriculum, instruction and
assessment
8.Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the
Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.
