Job Description:

Job Goal:The Special Education Team Leader shall work with the school community to build a learning climate that allows all students to meet their highest learning potential. The Special Education Team Leader shall work to establish and maintain consistent procedures to meet requirements of CMR 28.00. The Special Education Team Leader will chair most initial and reevaluation meetings for students and will manage the school's special education programs and services.Essential Functions:Collaborate with others (Director of Special Education, teachers, building principal, guidance, and other professional staff, etc.) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services in accordance with programmatic and regulatory requirements.Chair/Manage/Coordinate Student Study Team (SST) and 504 process to examine student academic, social, emotional, and/or behavioral concerns. Communicate with faculty as needed, inclusive of note taking, establishing timelines.Serve as evaluation TEAM chairperson for initial referrals and reevaluations, including scheduling and overseeing all related processes, meetings, and paperwork.Assist with the monitoring of IEP development and implementation, including testing of students.Consult with the district's special education/general education staff for the purpose of maintaining existing programs and implementing new services. Facilitate meetings that may frequently involve a range of issues for the purpose of evaluating situations, identifying appropriate actions, developing recommendations and/or implementing desired program changes. This will include attending meetings for out-of-district placements and with hospitals and other social service agencies for the purpose of coordinating services.Assist the Director of Special Education (i.e., recommend and help develop) a range of program options and services to meet the needs of all students.Advise both special education and regular education teachers regarding accommodations and modifications in curriculum and instruction.Provide behavioral support and help to plan interventions for students across all grade levels. Respond to inquiries of staff, district personnel, other professional organizations, etc. for the purpose of providing information and/or direction.Complete reports in a timely manner and provide support with academic evaluations and observations, as needed.Work cooperatively with both special education and regular education staff and be an active, responsible participant in both building-based and district learning communities.Attend professional conferences and workshops as assigned or approved by Director of Special Education/Principal.Establish, by personal example, a standard of excellence that will inspire others.Carry out other building-based duties and responsibilities as directed by Director of Special Education/Principal.
