Springfield College Occupational Therapy Department invites
applications for the position of Doctoral Capstone
Coordinator/Assistant or Associate Professor in the. This is a
full-time nine-month program-track faculty appointment beginning in
August 2023. The Occupational Therapy Department offers a five-year
combined baccalaureate and master's program and an entry-level
master's degree program. An entry-level OTD program will be offered
in conjunction with the MSOT. The OT program has been accredited by
ACOTE since 1991, and currently has 8 full-time faculty members.
The mission of the Department is to prepare professionals for
leadership in the use of human occupation to promote people's
participation in meaningful life roles and activities.The Doctoral
Capstone Coordinator will have 6 credits of administrative
reassigned time per semester to coordinate doctoral capstone
placements for students in the OTD program. In addition, the
Doctoral Capstone Coordinator will have primary responsibilities
that include teaching and advising, as well as participating in
scholarly endeavors and providing service within the College and
community. Program faculty blend classroom and experiential
learning by integrating field- or community-based experiences
across the curriculum, consistent with Springfield College's
mission and renowned commitment to service learning and community
engagement. The teaching load and the administrative reassigned
time will be the equivalent of a full-time faculty teaching load of
24 credits per year.In addition to the above, the Doctoral Capstone
Coordinator will be responsible for complying with the ACOTE
capstone doctoral standards (section D.1.0), including, but not
limited to:Ensuring the doctoral capstone reflects the curriculum
design and allows for in depth knowledge in an area of
interest;Ensuring the doctoral capstone is designed through
collaboration between the faculty, student, and setting and is
consistent with the program's curriculum design;Ensuring a
literature review, needs assessment, goals/objectives, and an
evaluation plan are consistent with the curriculum design and done
in preparation for the capstone experience;Ensuring valid and
signed memoranda of understanding for the doctoral capstone
experience are in place and include student specific objectives,
plans for mentoring/supervision, and an outline of the
responsibilities of all parties;Requiring the doctoral experience
be a minimum of 14 weeks (560 hours) done either full or part time
and consistent with standard requirements;Documenting and verifying
the site mentor has expertise consistent with the area of
focus;Documenting a mechanism for evaluation of student
performance; andEnsuring the doctoral capstone is completed and
disseminated.The School of Health Sciences includes programs in
Communication Sciences and Disorders, Emergency Medical Services,
Gerontology, Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy, Physical
Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, and Public Health.

minimum of three years of relevant professional experience in the
desired content area, an earned doctoral degree, certification as
an occupational therapist, and eligibility for OT licensure in
Massachusetts. Successful candidates will have excellent
interpersonal and written communication skills, demonstrated
leadership skills, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Teaching
experience in higher education, evidence of commitment to
scholarship, ability to collaborate and work in a team environment,
technology skills to support teaching and scholarship, a background
in relevant clinical practice, and experience designing and
coordinating doctoral capstone experiences are preferred.
