Job Description:

SUMMARY
The senior tooling engineer provides expert knowledge on tooling feasibility, solutions and proposals on designated assignments. Communication will take place internally with sales, estimating, purchasing, engineering, and externally with suppliers and customers. The senior tooling engineer will take an active role in injection molding tool sourcing, identifying state of the art tooling solutions, solving complex tooling issues, and mentoring others to advance their knowledge of tooling design, fabrication, and technology.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- - - - - - - - -Lead the idea -creation and design activities for development of tools for a wide range of products across Medical, Aerospace and Defense. This includes brainstorming, risk analysis, customer feedback and manufacturability considerations.
- - - - - - - - -Act as a liaison between suppliers and Engineering for all tooling related activities
- - - - - - - - -Keep abreast with the state-of-the-art in tooling related to injection molding techniques
- - - - - - - - -Create, review and update engineering and support documents as required per quality systems
- - - - - - - - -Provide training and coaching on best practices for tool design, validation, and implementation
- - - - - - - - -Coordinate with other team members as needed during mold qualification, -sampling, -and final part approval
- - - - - - - - -Ability to quote large injection mold tooling projects, including required auxiliary equipment
- - - - - - - - -Involvement in troubleshooting issues with production molds
- - - - - - - - -Develop outside tooling sources as needed
- - - - - - - - -Coordinate tool repair activity as needed
- - - - - - - - -Coordinate mold design reviews with internal team and customer
- - - - - - - - -Coordinate implementation of -cost-effective -tool design changes
- - - - - - - - -Involvement in DFM/FMEA activities both internally and with customers
- - - - - - - - -Actively pursue avenues to reduce tool build time and costs.
- - - - - - - - -Extended travel to other facilities may be required to support business needs.
- - - - - - - - -Actively participate in continual improvement/innovation, corrective action and internal/external customer satisfaction.
- - - - - - - - -Develop and maintain tool build standards with up to date technology and cost competitive solutions.
- - - - - - - - -Develop and maintain spare component library with tooling technicians to identify validated and non-validated status of spares.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise tooling technicians as required

QUALIFICATIONS
- - - - - - - - -Bachelors Degree in Engineering and 5 - 10 years experience
- - - - - - - - -Excellent proficiency in 3D modeling using SolidWorks and AutoCAD or Inventor
- - - - - - - - -A hands-on experience in measurements, stack-tolerances, assembly and debugging of injection molds
- - - - - - - - -A strong background in the inter-dependency between machining of tools, metal properties (including thermal), part/runner/gate design, dimensional tolerances, and the injection molding process
- - - - - - - - -A good understanding or hands-on experience with FEA packages such as MoldFlow, ANSYS, is a plus
- - - - - - - - -Experience in vendor-relationship with tool manufacturers
- - - - - - - - -A good understanding of Risk Analysis, FMEA and Design of Experiments approach to tool development and problem solving
- - - - - - - - -Proven capability to collaborate across cultural/language, differing opinions, and geographical boundaries is essential for this position
- - - - - - - - -Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- - - - - - - - -Strong verbal and written communication skills
- - - - - - - - -A good understanding of project management from a tooling-development perspective
- - - - - - - - -Demonstrate injection molding knowledge including tooling, materials, processing, and part design.
- - - - - - - - -Advanced knowledge of key tool & mold design principles.
- - - - - - - - -Advanced knowledge of hot/cold runners, manifolds, valves and gating options.
- - - - - - - - -Communicates effectively with customers, team members and suppliers.
- - - - - - - - -Demonstrate listening, writing, presenting and verbal communication skills.
- - - - - - - - -Demonstrate problem solving skills and analytical skills.
- - - - - - - - -Knowledge of scientific molding practices and process development
- - - - - - - - -Knowledge of cavity pressure and temperature transducers including debugging, calibration, and installation.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in engineering from four-year college or university, and/or related work experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. -Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. - -Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Certificates in Scientific Injection Molding, hydraulic Architecture, Pneumatic Logic and Mechanical Design and Manufacture are not required but are helpful.
