Position DescriptionJob Summary: The Mining Engineer will provide support of Peckham's mining operations. This role is responsible for supporting and collecting data in the field (both plant and quarry) to provide necessary technical information to improve aggregate plant efficiency and deploy resource recovery plans that maximize efficiency and extend the available life of Peckham's quarry, sand, and gravel operations.Essential Functions: 1.Gather and Utilize Mine Planning Data: Gather and utilize geologic mapping, drill data, hydrologic information, quality testing results, topography, aerial photography, survey data, and other mine planning data to design 3-D mine plans and mining/stripping schedules in Carlson Mining software and AutoCAD Civil 3D platforms2.Optimize Operations: Identify opportunities to increase efficiencies, maximize reserve recovery, reduce costs, minimize wastes, and reduce impacts to neighbors. Assist operations managers with efforts to lower operating costs and increase aggregate plant efficiency3.Analyze Sales Forecasts: Analyze and understand sales forecasts to ensure that ample aggregate is produced to satisfy projected demand throughout the construction season4.Analyze and Document Land Use Information: Gather, review, analyze, and document property lines, mining setbacks, easements, zoning, special use agreements, neighbor concerns, and other site-specific land use information as necessary for mine planning process5.Generate and Maintain Site Plans and Maps: Generate and maintain an updated life-of-mine site plan for all locations. Maintain aerial photos and topographic maps/site maps on the network server in an up-to-date and current status. Assist with reserve documentation6.Monitor Mine Development: Monitor long-term mine development and identify/advise on current and future mining challenges. Develop and communicate reserve estimates, short-term mine plans, long-term mine plans, and mine reclamation plans7.Ensure Compliance: Assist operations personnel in complying with permit conditions, laws, regulations, guidelines, and in maintaining the systems necessary for compliance8.Prepare Stripping Plans: Estimate stripping volumes, prepare stripping plans and assist with preparation of stripping cost estimates9.Assist Team in Analyzing Potential Acquisitions: Develop strategic plans for future integration and development of acquisitions, including greenfield site identification and permitting10.Analyze Blasting Contractors: Ensure optimal cost/efficiency/safety compliance along with minimizing impact to neighbors11.Assist Safety Department: Foster employee engagement and our drive to zero incidents12.Support Equipment Procurement: Assist in evaluation of crushing and mobile equipment planning and acquisition13.Promote and foster company ESG initiatives at all levels Position RequirementsRequirements:1.Bachelor's degree in Mine Engineering or similar area of study, required; Master's degree and/or Professional Engineering license, preferred2.7+ years of mining experience in operations, engineering, and project evaluation, preferred3.Must be willing to seek Professional licenses in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, if not already held, within the first 18 months of employment with Peckham. All expenses related to obtaining and maintaining PE licenses reimbursed by Peckham4.Technical proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, Carlson Mining Software, and other related software5.Ability to create mine plans, compute stone reserves, and interpret data including geologic testing results, topographic maps and regulatory requirements.6.Professional English written and verbal communication skills7.Legal right to work in the U. This position works both in an office setting and in the field on or near moving mechanical parts and loud equipment.
