Status: Exempt SUMMARY: The Lab General Manager 1 is responsible
for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of a lab or
service center that produces up to 250 jobs per day. The General
Manager 1 carries out management responsibilities in accordance
with the organization's policies and applicable laws while
maintaining the execution of high quality lab services.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training
employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising
performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing
complaints and resolving problems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES &
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for running the location safely and
efficiently. Oversees laboratory safety and ensures that the
laboratory remains in compliance with all local, state and federal
regulations. In cases where non-compliance is found, documents the
instances as well as how they were abated. Leads the location to
meet performance and deliver on goals and objectives. Assigns
duties, prepares work schedules and expedites work flow. Maintains
and repairs equipment. Requests assistance as needed. Works in all
areas of the lab as needed to meet production requirements.
Responsible for reviewing and approving vendor invoices up to
$500.00. Complete employee performance review/evaluation and
recommend salary revisions. Follows Ringisho process when needed.
Reviews and analyzes DVI reports, audits spoilage, key indicator
reports to determine cause of quality or production issues.
Identifies areas of the lab processes which are not performing to
standard and establishes necessary root-cause analyses to create
permanent corrective actions. Analyzes operational data. Develops
and implements action plans to meet KPIs. Ensures all employees are
appropriately trained to meet and achieve performance standards.
Increase the profitability and growth of the location. Accurately
manage operational cost and adhere to labor guidelines. Forecasts
staffing needs accurately based on available information.
Appropriately adjusts staffing levels up or down to meet the
business plan. Assists in the development of standard operational
and working procedures and observes worker to ensure compliance
with procedures. Plans and directs employee training required to
stay abreast of new product introduction. Leads the Safety
initiative and is committed to creating a safe working environment
for all employees. Ensures staff completes appropriate safety
training such as new hire and annual safety training, LOTO and
other related courses. Maintains a highly responsive customer
approach providing excellent service and quality. Maintain a
team-oriented working environment. Foster an environment of
training & development to allow continuous career growth.
Demonstrates sound judgment in anticipating challenges, problem

Partners with the local Salesforce to develop and maintain new

time. QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an

EDUCATION: High School Diploma required. Associates or Bachelor's
Degree preferred. EXPERIENCE: 3 years of previous supervisory
experience; preferably in ophthalmic lab. Strong planning, business
acumen and implementation skills. Demonstrated communication or
client relations skills strongly preferred. Familiarity with
financial reports KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Results oriented
with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Ability to manage a
Team Good understanding of production processes and quality
control. Ability to monitor performance of individuals or processes
and take corrective action to make improvements. Familiarity with
manufacturing machines and tools used in production. Must be
available to work a variety of shifts, Saturdays and Sundays and
some Holidays when needed. Ability to read and write English well.
Computer skills to include; windows, MS office, Excel and
experience with complex software systems or ability to learn.
