We're actively seeking a talented and experienced Strategic Portfolio Director to join our Workforce Benefits division in Newport Beach, CA.As a Portfolio Director in our Strategy & Program Management Office (PMO), you'll play a key role in overseeing the portfolio of projects required to build and evolve the capabilities needed to start up, and continue to evolve this exciting new business for Pacific Life. You will partner with senior leaders to provide centralized management of project portfolios with a focus on achieving business outcomes supporting our Division and business strategy. You will also be responsible for managing the portfolio management lifecycle through effective governance, and ensure projects and programs are prioritized, monitored and executed in a manner that supports strategic objectives, goals and business value. Due to the start-up nature of this Division, you will also work closely with Pacific Life PMO counterparts in other Divisions to learn best practices and support the build out of the PMO within Workforce Benefits.This role reports to the Head of Strategy & PMO for the Workforce Benefits Division and will play an integral role in translating the division's strategy to action. You embrace the ambiguity and high degree of complexity associated with standing up a new business and new organizational structure. You are willing and able to jump in where needed and you bring an innovative mindset to solving critical business problems.This role is highly desirable to be on-site or hybrid in Newport Beach, CA, or Chicago, IL. Will consider 100% remote for the right candidate.How you will make an impact:

  • Provide leadership throughout entire project lifecycles, including project planning, initiation, resourcing, execution, monitoring, completion, and value realization/benefits tracking.
  • Ensure projects achieve critical milestones on time and on budget with timely communication between teams and senior management; Provide appropriate levels of project status reporting.
  • Develop and maintain a risk management plan to identify, quantify, and mitigate risks to success on the projects within the portfolio.
  • Engage with the division's portfolio management process, including resource tracking, ensuring value proposition and cost benefit analysis information is accurately assessed and utilized with senior leaders to assist in prioritization.
  • Routine engagements with vendors associated with implementation projects to maintain alignment on cost, schedule, and quality and identify risks as early as possible.
  • Regular interactions with executives to define project priorities and implementation opportunities and challenges, ensuring project risks and opportunities are properly addressed
  • Build an appropriately sized and scalable project management team, leveraging strategic sourcing and third-party resources where appropriate.
  • Manage matrixed teams with members from multiple organizations.The experience you will bring:
    • 10+ years project and change management experience, with extensive knowledge of associated methodologies, techniques, processes, and approaches.
    • Strong desire to participate in building the PMO ecosystem for a start-up, growth business within a large organization.
    • Proven experience managing teams that include multiple third-parties and internal resources.
    • Experience in the life insurance, financial services, or employee benefits markets highly desired.
    • Experience leading large programs and small-scale projects with a wide variety of scope while consistently applying critical thinking skills. -
    • Budget, cost, and profitability management skills.
    • Ability to blend innovation and agile methodologies with traditional project management to optimize solutions and collaboration. - - -
