Job Id: 1641 # of Openings: 1 Medical Laboratory Director-- Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Science.
• Four years medical laboratory experience.
• At least one year of supervisory experience.
• Additional education may be substituted for year's experience.
• Medical Laboratory Science or Medical Technologist certification , ASCP certification. Duties:
  • --Ensures that testing systems developed and used for each of the tests performed in the laboratory provide quality laboratory services for all aspects of test performance, which includes the preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic phases of testing
  • Ensure that the physical plant and environmental conditions of the laboratory are appropriate for the testing performed and provide a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
  • Ensures verification procedures used are adequate to determine the accuracy, precision, and other pertinent performance characteristics of the method.
  • Ensures that laboratory personnel are conducting the test methods as required for accurate and reliable results.
  • Ensures that laboratory is enrolled in an HHS approved proficiency testing program for the testing performed.
  • Ensures that the quality control and quality assessment programs are established and maintained to assure the quality of laboratory services provided and to identify failures in quality as they occur.
  • Ensure the establishment of and maintenance of acceptable levels of analytical performance for each test system.
  • --Ensure that all necessary remedial actions are taken and documented wherever significant deviations from the laboratory's established performance specifications are identified, and that patient test results are reported only when the system is functioning properly.
  • Works with the Medical Director of Lab to define additional equipment and testing to meet the needs of patients and providers.
  • Ensures that policies and procedures are established for monitoring individuals who conduct preanalytical, analytical, and postanalytical phases of testing to assure competence to maintain their competency to process specimens, perform testing, report results promptly, and where necessary identify training or education needs to improve skills.
  • Responsible to provide in writing the responsibilities and duties of each person engaged in preanalytic, analytic, and postanalytic phases of testing.--
  • Perform calibrations and quality control accurately and efficiently as required. Able to evaluate calibrations and quality control results to determine the accuracy of patient results.
  • Effectively communicates with providers, supervisor or peers by providing information via telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person.
