experience preferred Description: This position is urgent and
requires a professional nurse who demonstrates strong leadership
skills, clinical expertise, and compassion for patients and
teammates. The RN Charge Nurse provides care for patients and has
unit operation oversight throughout the assigned shift. Key
responsibilities include serving as a role model for professional
nursing behaviors, clinical competencies, and critical thinking.
The charge nurse will mentor, precept, and nurture new nurses to
facilitate their transition from novice to expert. In addition to
charge nurse duties, the RN may occasionally manage a small patient
assignment of 1-3 patients. The position involves overseeing LPNs,
RNs, and LNAs and delegating care as appropriate. The charge nurse
helps coordinate employee breaks and creates nursing assignments,
making adjustments based on patient acuity and
discharges/admissions. Assisting LPNs, RNs, and LNAs as needed
throughout the shift is also part of the role. The charge nurse
monitors for lab and diagnostic test results and follows up on
referrals while coordinating with other departments as necessary.
Providing the nurse manager with concerns regarding employee
performance and handling conflicts as they arise is expected.
Monitoring charting for timely and accurate documentation is also
an essential duty. Effective communication within the nursing team
and management is crucial for coordinating day-to-day activities of
the unit, including discharges, admissions, and transfers. The
charge nurse acts as a house supervisor and main resource during
off shifts, ensuring all units and providers are updated on bed
availability and communicating with administration when needed.
Communication with other hospitals regarding bed availability to
facilitate patient transfers is a key responsibility as well.
