Job Description: GENERAL STATEMENAT OF DUTIES Springfield Technical Community College seeks applicants for the part time position of Clinical Laboratory Assistant to the Medical Laboratory Technician Program. This Clinical Laboratory Assistant will report to the Department Chair of the Medical Laboratory Technician program and the Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation (SHPS). The Clinical Laboratory Assistant will implement assistive methods in practices and processes which maximize personnel and supportive resources in the achievement of School of Health and Patients Simulation goals, which align with the College's goals outlined in the Student Success plan, 2015-2020. Under the supervision of the Department Chair of Medical Laboratory Technician Program and the Dean of School of Health and Patient Simulation, the Clinical Laboratory Assistant will demonstrate excellence in the following areas: Leadership and Management: * Understand and supports the College's mission and supports the educational and informational needs of the SHPS students. * Interact professionally with students * Understands, values and acts according to the wide-range of needs are found in a diverse student population appreciating the expectations of the Medical Laboratory Technician and Allied Health students. * Uphold the policies and regulations of the School of Health and patient Simulation. * Submit promptly and in proper form reports and requests of the Department Chair and the Dean of the School of Health and Patient Simulation. * Attend all departmental, school and college meetings as required. Teaching & Assessment: * Provide support, guidance and instruction to students in the laboratory setting. * Provide learning activities to students under the supervision of the laboratory faculty members. * Perform competencies and other lab assessments * Evaluate student performance on skill competencies and laboratory practical examinations. * Demonstrate competent usage of MLT laboratory equipment. * Observe and supervises return demonstration of clinical skills by the students. * Identify remediation needs of students; provides remediation for clinical skills as directed. * Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues. * Maintain safety of laboratory equipment and classroom space. * Prepare, assemble, and disassemble all equipment, reagents and supplies for laboratory exercises for students. Inventory all replenishment supplies * Maintain and organize all laboratory equipment and supplies. * Working as a team with faculty and other lab staff by assisting in the performance of student laboratory exercises, arriving prepared for the laboratory exercise, answering questions and clarifying instructions for students, critiquing and modeling laboratory psychomotor skills Personnel: * Abide by the regulations set out in the Massachusetts Community College Council collective bargaining agreement. Facilities: * Ensures utilization and proper use of learning equipment and materials. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: * Actively participate in professional organizations/initiatives of the School of Health and Patient simulation * Maintain and update professional and clinical competencies and certification Requirements: * MLT, MT or MLS with current national certification from ASCP or equivalent agency * Commitment to and demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff & student body. * Maintains competency in clinical skills. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: * Associate's or Bachelor's Degree preferred. * Experience in working with and assisting a diverse student population. * Current American Heart Association BLS CPR certification. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS Duties normally performed in a classroom/lab environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time. Must have the able to bend, stoop, sit, climb, walk and reach overhead as needed. Light physical exertion.
