Job DescriptionThe Boathouse is looking to hire hosts, bussers, and food runners as we prepare for our upcoming summer season on the river! If you enjoy talking to people and working in a fast-paced and team-oriented then this might be the perfect opportunity for you. No prior experience is necessary, come eager to learn and we'll train you with a flexible schedule and a fun work environment. We look forward to hearing from you!Host/Hostess Primary Duties:

  • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of The Bean Restaurant Group.
  • Warmly and graciously greet all guests and seat them at tables or in waiting areas.
  • Open the front door for guests entering or leaving the restaurant when possible.
  • Provide guests with menus and inform them of their server's name upon seating.
  • Record guest names and the number of people in party and provide guests with estimated waiting time when immediate seating is limited, if available give them a buzzer.
  • Assign guests to tables suitable for their needs and according to rotation so that servers receive an appropriate number of seatings.
  • Call out name and number of party when tables become available, or buzz them back to the host stand.
  • Speak with guests to ensure satisfaction with food and service, to respond to complaints, or to make conversation.
  • Answer telephone calls and respond to inquiries or transfer calls.
  • Maintain contact with kitchen staff, management, serving staff, and guests to ensure that dining details are handled properly and customers' concerns are addressed.
  • Inspect dining and serving areas to ensure cleanliness and proper setup.
  • Inform guests of establishment specialties and features.
  • Receive and record guests' dining reservations.
  • Relay messages to servers and bussers as needed.
  • Thank guests as they leave and invite them to return.
  • Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests' needs and support the operation of the restaurant.Busser Primary Duties:
    • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of The Bean Restaurant Group.
    • Set tables with clean linens/napkins, cutlery condiments, and/or other supplies.
    • Clear tables after guests, wipe tables or seats with dampened cloths if necessary replace dirty tablecloths.
    • Promptly clean table tops, chairs, booths, and the floor under and around tables between guests.
    • Remove used tableware between courses and provide any needed tableware for next course.
    • Locate items requested by guests.
    • Scrape and stack dirty dishes and carry dishes and other tableware to kitchens for cleaning.
    • Take soiled tableware to the designated area, and unload, sort and stack silverware, dishes, and glassware for cleaning.
    • Perform serving, cleaning, or stocking duties to facilitate customer service.
    • Carry food, dishes, trays, or silverware from kitchens or supply areas to serving counters.
    • Clean up spilled food or drink or broken dishes and remove trash.
    • Serve food to guests when servers need assistance.
    • Thank guests as they leave.
    • Maintain adequate supplies of items such as clean linens, napkins, silverware, glassware, dishes, or trays.
    • Clean and polish counters, shelves, walls, furniture, or equipment in food service areas or other areas of the restaurant, and mop or vacuum floors.
    • Fill beverage or ice dispensers.
    • Communicate with server and host staff to expedite efficient seating, table utilization, and customer service.
    • Respond appropriately to guest requests, and communicate guest requests to server as needed.
    • Obtain service area assignment at the beginning of each shift.
    • Inspect assigned restroom every 30 minutes, and clean as needed.
    • Coordinate with and assist fellow employees to meet guests' needs and support the operation of the restaurant.Food Runner Primary Duties:
      • Promote, work, and act in a manner consistent with the mission of The Bean Restaurant Group
      • Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customers' tables rapidly and accurately
      • Act as the contact point between Front of the House and Back of the House staff
      • Communicate food orders to chefs, paying attention to priorities and special requests (e.g. food allergies)
      • Assist the wait staff with table setting by fetching and placing appropriate tableware, eating utensils and napkins
      • Check in with customers and take additional orders or refill water, as needed
      • Remove dirty dishes and utensils
      • Answer guests' questions about ingredients and menu items
      • Inform restaurant staff about customers' feedback or requests (e.g. when they ask for the check)Supplemental Duties:
        • Take and prepare to-go orders.
        • Coordinate activities of dining room staff to ensure that patrons receive prompt and courteous service.
        • Clean all menus.
        • Inspect restrooms for cleanliness and availability of supplies and clean restrooms when necessary.
        • Smile!Working Conditions:
          • Hours will vary from week to week.
          • Position requires prolonged standing, bending, stooping, twisting, lifting products and supplies weighing 45 pounds, and repetitive hand and wrist motion.
          • Able to work in a standing position for long periods of time
