Admin Offices - Southfield - Southfield, MI Position Type Full Time 4 Year Degree Salary Range Undisclosed Travel Percentage Negligible Job Shift Day Job Category Human Resources Description FYI - To be considered for this position, applications must be received no later than February 20, 2021 Objective Lead, organize, direct, develop, administer, manage and implement comprehensive human resources activities, practices, policies and procedures in alignment with Volunteers of America Michigan's --Vision, Mission Statement, Strategic Plan goals and objectives and in compliance with applicable Federal and state laws. Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide fair, equitable and competent leadership in the resolution of work-related concerns
  • Establish and maintain sound organizational structure and desirable working relationships among all members of the agency
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to understand the agency's --goals and strategy related to staffing, recruiting and retention
  • Develop and monitor HR strategy to continue to align HR with organizational direction and address HR-related trends
  • Ensure HR operations comply with applicable Federal and state laws
  • Plan, lead, develop coordinate and implement policies, procedures, training and initiatives to support the agency's --human resource compliance and strategy needs
  • Apply professional knowledge and personal judgment to a variety of technical personnel and managerial problems and issues
  • Monitor performance evaluation program and update as needed
  • Respond to employment-related claims and litigation and facilitate closure
  • Ensure distribution and posting of required employment information and other regulations as needed and required
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and employment legislation to ensure the agency's --compliance with regulations
  • Direct the maintenance of employee records in accordance with industry standards and legal compliance; serve as a resource for decision-making and meet or exceed local, state and federal record keeping requirements
  • Manage employee discipline, performance improvement and terminations
  • Direct the administration of employee benefits program
  • Foster effective relationships with plan administrators, consultants and vendors
  • Direct and oversee the employee payroll process
  • Direct and oversee the employee orientation process
  • Administer the agency workers compensation programs
  • Provide advice and counsel management/employee relations
  • Conduct internal investigations and resolve disputes; respond to EEOC, MDOC and other charges Qualifications Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
    • Bachelors degree (BA) from four-year college or university; 5 to 7 years of progressively more responsible experience in Human Resources management, preferably in a non-profit and/or human services environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
    • Experience in the administration of benefits and compensation programs
    • Knowledge of Federal and state employment laws
    • Knowledge of human resources best practices
    • Knowledge of employee benefits and insurance
    • Excellent communication skills that includes professional and persuasive speaking and writing ability
    • Highly developed people skills
    • Relationship building skills
    • Strong, persuasive communicator with presentation and negotiation skills
    • Professional writing and speaking skills
    • Analytical skills necessary to conduct complex and detailed analysis of employee-related issues, benefits and other data as needed
    • Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively with a variety of employee issues
    • Leadership abilities and strategic thinking in order to plan, organize and implement department goals, agency policies and other processes
    • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of management
    • Ability to communicate effectively with outside contacts to include attorneys, regulatory agency representatives, insurance adjustors, vendors, etc.
    • Ability to work to deadlines and adapt to changing conditions
    • Ability to generate effective and practical solutions to new situations and problems as they are presented
    • Ability to work flexible hours
    • Ability to travel
    • Sound and accurate judgment with ability to support and explain reasoning for decisions. Include appropriate people in decision-making process; ensure timely decisions are made
    • Strong professional ethics which include approaching others in a tactful manner, reacting well under pressure; treating others with respect and consideration regardless of their status or position; accepting responsibility for own actions; following through on commitments; being discreet and flexible at all times
