Job Description:

Reporting to the SVP, Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and the CEO-- of Health Alliance Plan (HAP), the VP of HR provides leadership and direction for the Human Resources function for HAP. The VP of HR researches, develops, recommends, implements and promotes a variety of HR solutions to create an environment that maximizes the engagement of employees , and enhances overall performance. The HR leader develops and monitors specific programs that increases employee engagement. Is an active member of the Human Resources Executive Team, Henry Ford Health Systems (HFHS) and HAP Executive Leadership Forum, and other leadership teams within the HFHS & HAP. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The HAP VP of HR will be responsible for the following duties.

  • Serve as HR counsel to the leaders of HAP through the lens of culture, selection, assimilation, safety, development, talent and performance management, engagement and retention, employment law, labor practices, workforce planning and transitions.
  • Creates and implements human resources strategies that are consistent with the Goals of HAP and the System HR Strategic Plan.
  • Establish and enhance people practices that improve attraction, development, employee retention and safety.
  • Evaluate and eliminate policies and practices that institutionalize potential biases to reduce adverse impact and enable increased ethnically diverse talent at all levels within HFHS.
  • Strengthen organization resiliency through succession planning and investment in leadership development. Initiate and complete the Talent Review and Succession Planning
  • Provide business support through talent acquisition, employee relations, total rewards, operating model and / or leadership changes. Ensure that we have the right talent in the right place at the right time
  • Optimal partnership between HR business partners and HR Centers of Excellence to enable the success of our stakeholders ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The VP of HR for HAP will work closely with the HAP executive leadership team (CEO, Chief Operations, Chief Medical, Chief Marketing, Chief financial, Chief Compliance, and Deputy General Counsel) and HFHS HR leadership to:
    • Recruit, develop, and retain qualified, talented, and motivated employees.
    • Use talent calibration and development methods to build a leadership team with high accountability, superior management skills, and strategic competencies.
    • Champion curiosity, creativity, and the desire to continuously improve.
    • Drive purpose and cultural connection to the HFHS and HAP mission.
    • Support HAP's strategic plan to be a consumer driven organization. ,
    • Manage and provide technical and strategic support in the areas of human resource policies, labor relations, union contract negotiations, and compensation and benefits.
    • Develops and leads various processes to improve employee relations commitment to include Action Teams charged with follow-up from results of the Employee Engagement Survey.
    • Actively engage in the High Reliability Organization Culture and Care experience initiative to include input and liaison responsibilities to the HRO teams in key areas such as HRO Standards, Leadership Development, Reward & Recognition, Employee Satisfaction, Communication and First Impressions.
    • Partners with System Human Resources (e.g., Total Rewards, Talent Acquisition, Organizational Effectiveness and Learning , HR Services and Systems and Work Force Planning ) to provide the HFHS & HAP with the necessary HR services.
    • Ensures consistency and competency in the administration of Human Resource Programs across HAP. Monitors progress on Human Resources goals, timelines and outcomes utilizing employee engagement measures and other outcomes as developed.
    • Ensures compliance with federal and state employment laws and regulations, including JCAHO human resources standards.
    • Provides leadership and works closely with Human Resources Executive Team and Public Affairs, as needed, to effectively implement and roll-out HR programs which often requires an extensive communications plan.
    • Provides HR counsel to HAP through potential partnerships, reorganizations, acquisitions and organization design changes.
    • Aligns people practices to system scorecard metrics focused on engagement, turnover, DART and DEIJ.
    • Advance our system Culture Journey and our DEIJ strategy for HAP. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: MINIMUM EDUCATION
      A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, Health Services or related field is required. PREFERRED EDUCATION
      Master's Degree preferred. MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
      • Ten years of progressively more responsible experience in Human Resources, with at least three to five years of experience in a senior HR leadership role including direct and matrixed people leadership.
      • Strong knowledge of Human Resources with expertise as a well-rounded generalist with labor relations and union negotiations.
      • Experience working in HR within a Health Plan is highly desired.
      • Demonstrated experience providing direct support and/or partnering with HR Centers of Excellence to achieve the HR goals for your organization(s).
