The Opportunity
As the Employee Relations & HR Compliance Lead you will work in a fast paced, innovative, and collaborative environment to solve problems and deliver substantial value to the organization. You will assist in development and implementation of a progressive employee relations (ER) strategy that aligns with MassMutual's inclusive, vibrant, and diverse culture, and collaborate across the organization on a variety of meaningful initiatives. You can have an immediate impact by providing strategic consultation on challenging ER issues, leading a variety of compliance processes, and building strong partnerships.
The Team
The Employee Relations & HR Compliance Lead is a key role within a newly formed function, aligning ER, HR Compliance, and Risk. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a leadership role in building the function, improving work processes, influencing others, and owning components of an evolving and progressive ER strategy. ER & HR Compliance sits within HR Consulting & Talent Management and collaborates frequently with the HRBPs.
Core Accountabilities & Job Requirements



  • Provide guidance and coaching to HRBPs and ER team on a wide range of ER matters, including progressive discipline, employment termination, job eliminations, and workplace investigations


  • Conduct workplace investigations involving MassMutual leadership and investigations involving particularly sensitive or complex issues


  • Own and lead components of an evolving and progressive ER Strategy, providing insight and driving accountability on topics such as data-driven decision making and enhanced talent mobility


  • Execute external regulatory reports/filings, including associated with EEOC, Affirmative Action, and OFCCP


  • Maintain awareness of new legislation (nationally), track relevant legislation, and engage the right COEs/stakeholders to ensure timely implementation of new laws impacting HR


  • Conduct proactive audits of various HR processes and regulatory requirements. Analyze audit results and develop recommendations to enhance compliance and mitigate risk


  • Analyze data, identify trends, and develop ER and HR Compliance reports to help drive decision making


  • Manage, coordinate and serve as point of contact for various HR Risk and Compliance matters, including HIPAA and privacy breaches, anti-nepotism, conflicts of interest, data governance, and mandatory trainings


  • Identify areas of opportunity, then develop and deliver trainings to enhance knowledge and practices


  • Participate in enterprise-wide strategic projects/programs requiring ER/HR Compliance expertise

  • Partner with HR leadership, HRBPs, and COEs, including Law, Corporate Compliance, and Enterprise Risk Management

    Qualifications, Skills & Competencies


    • Bachelor's degree required; JD, MBA or other advanced degree preferred


    • 5+ years of ER and HR Compliance experience


    • Subject matter expertise in ER, HR compliance and risk, AA/EEO, conflict resolution, and workplace investigations


    • Superior written and oral communication skills


    • Strong facilitation skills and proven ability to influence and advise on a wide range of ER and HR Compliance issues


    • Ability to manage complex, long-term projects


    • Ability to establish strong cross-functional partnerships


    • Possess a "seek to understand" mentality and the ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment


    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze data and identify trends


    • Champion continuous improvement and actively seek ways to enhance and streamline processes


    • Key MM competencies = accountability, agility, communication, inclusion, and self-awareness

    • Must be eligible to work in the US without sponsorship
