This full-time AmeriCorps service position offers a great opportunity to make a real impact in the lives of others while building your own knowledge and skillset.AmeriCorps National members serve the community in direct service and capacity building activities.What will you do?The construction crew leader plays an integral part in building and repairing homes. Lead groups of skills and unskilled volunteers and homeowner families in construction activities while maintaining a safe, efficient work environment, thus, developing and enhancing your volunteer management and construction skills.* Typically serve Tuesday - Saturday on the build site.* Assist with all aspects of hands-on construction tasks including, but not limited to, demolition, site prep, framing, insulation, drywall, flooring, roofing, finish carpentry and landscaping.* Projects may include new construction, rehabilitation, critical home repair and weatherization projects.* Lead small groups of volunteers and facilitate safe and positive experiences for everyone working on site.* Maintain site safety by adhering to Habitat construction safety policies, modeling best practices and guidelines, volunteer education and site monitoring.This position will focus on home construction home repair neighborhood revitalization and volunteer services aspects of Habitat affiliate operations and will benefit youth populations.Where will you serve?This is a widely diverse area of both rural communities and urban cities. We are home to the Basketball and Volleyball Hall of Fame, the birthplace of Dr. Seuss, and Indian Motorcycle Company. There are many upstanding higher education universities and colleges in the community as well. We are approximately two hours west of Boston, three hours from Cape Cod, three hours from New York City, and three hours from both the Green Mountains in Vermont and the White Mountains in New Hampshire, making our area an ideal location for whatever your recreational tastes might be.Greater Springfield Habitat for Humanity is in western Massachusetts, along the beautiful Connecticut River, and proudly serves the 23 cities and towns of Hampden County. Our affiliate was established in 1987 and we have served 100 families through new construction and home preservation projects as well as 93 families in Guatemala. Our current goal for the 2022 fiscal year is to complete three new construction projects, and up to five preservation projects (two of which are for military veterans).We are excited to be building again in the community after shutting down due to the pandemic. We are a small affiliate in our staffing size, we currently employ four full-time office staff, one full-time construction manager, and two part-time construction assistants. We also have four employees on staff at our ReStore. The ability to work as a team is essential for us to achieve our goals.
