Position DescriptionJob Summary:An Estimator is responsible for the overall project estimate working with members of the estimating team under the Chief Estimator. Works with clients including public and private owners, architects/engineers, developers, subcontractors/ suppliers to plan cost factors for building projects; analyzes construction documents, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for projects.Essential Functions: Review and mine government and industry information outlets as well as other publications and resources review proposals, specifications and schematics and drawings to determine scope of work and requirementsPrepare estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of workMaintain files of working documents as back-up for estimate figures, including current and accurateAssist with maintaining the estimate costs data base to ensure costs are up to dateSupport other department personnel as required which may include preparing estimates in otherReviews subcontractor and supplier bids for conformity to contract requirements and determines acceptable bidsResolve technical matters during negotiation and contract executionWorks with operations team throughout the preconstruction process in reviewing plans and specificationsProvide complete cost estimate and final estimating input on complex projects. Must be able to managePerform periodic and post completion analysis of actual cost vs estimatedMay review design options and recommend best solution based on cost, engineering quality, orReview and incorporate historical cost and production from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports of previous jobs to use in future estimatesCoordinate total estimate effort relevant to bid or project, as assignedFollow awarded contracts which may include estimating extra work orders, change ordersWith other estimating staff, take inquiries from private businesses and coordinate to provide estimatesNegotiate contracts and attend pre-bid meetingsRelate to the public and customers in a professional, courteous, and respectful mannerFrequent contact with other plants, project managers, foremen, superintendents, customers', and members of the public; occasional contact with company managers and executives Position RequirementsRequirements, Education and Experience:Bachelor's Degree preferred, or combination of high school diploma/equivalent and at least 5-10 years of work-related experience, on-the-job training, and/orvocational trainingExperience must include related work experience in asphalt paving and/or road construction practicesProficient verbal and written English communication skillsLegal right to work in the U.S. Equal Opportunity EmployerPeckham Industries is an Equal Employment Opportunity and Affirmative Action employer.
