Position Summary: Performs skilled electrical maintenance tasks such as the installation, maintenance and repair of electrical wiring systems, fixtures, controls, appliances, and equipment of buildings, grounds, apartments and general facilities. This individual is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of assigned electrical systems and components. Essential Functions : Performs the general maintenance and repair of electrical wiring systems including switches, outlets, lights, stoves, dryers, transformers, etc. in accordance with appropriate electrical safety codes. Repairs appliances such as stoves, refrigerators, dryers, disposals, etc. by troubleshooting circuits for defects using test equipment such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, test lights, etc., to restore them to operational conditions. Performs internal and external connections of complicated electrical equipment such as motor controllers, switchboxes, transformers, generators on multiphase circuits, etc., by referring to circuit diagrams, blueprints, schematics, etc. Performs electrical maintenance and repair to fire alarm systems, intercom systems, emergency lighting systems, etc. by replacing defective wires, cleaning and renewing imperfect contacts, replacing burned out elements, fuses and/ or switches, tightening loose connections, etc. Plans the routing, placement, type, size, load, capacity, etc. of wiring systems by interpreting building plans blueprints, wiring diagrams, electrical maintenance and repair manuals, etc. to ensure the proper installation and safe operation of wiring circuits and lines. Installs a variety of components of an electrical system such as wire (Romex, BX, single conductor, low voltage, etc.), electrical boxes, panels, motors, lighting fixture, meter sockets, conduit, service change, EMT, etc. Performs Maintenance Mechanic 1 functions as requested by the Director of Maintenance. Performs other related duties of the class, as required. Qualifications : Knowledge of National, State and Local electrical codes. Knowledge of electrical theory. Knowledge of electrical tools and equipment. Knowledge of safety precautions and procedures used while working with electricity. Skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, blueprints, diagrams repair manuals etc. Ability to plan and lay out electrical wiring systems for proper and safe operations. Ability to receive and carry out oral and written instructions. Ability to perform effectively in cramped quarters and in high places. Massachusetts drivers license required. Possess and maintain a valid Massachusetts Electricians License. Ability to train and supervise other Maintenance employees. Knowledge of handling hazardous materials. Basic knowledge of state and local building electrical codes. Three to five years experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical wiring systems. Graduation from a trade, regional vocational high or other schools offering a curriculum in electricity, with considerable experience in electrical maintenance/constructions. Ability to perform manual tasks requiring physical strength, including lifting heavy objects of no more than 40 pounds. Powered by JazzHR
